Embrace New Life This Spring
Spring is finally here! And, if you're anything like me, you've been eagerly awaiting that spring equinox where the light lingers and the temperature warms.
Living in the Northeast can make it difficult to really see—and truly enjoy—the first signs of spring. The thermometer is often a sliver of red, and there's still snow on the ground.
But, as I glance out my window right now, I see greener flecks of grass peeking through. The ground has been storing nutrients all winter long and is slowly welcoming new life.
Maybe you don't feel or see that right now. You might be in a personal winter or are reflecting on one you've experienced in the past.
It can be so difficult to see the new growth that's being prepared while in the dregs of life's winter storms, can't it?
As we approach Resurrection Sunday, I can't help but think of Jesus's disciples. I bet the waiting between Friday and Sunday felt like the longest, darkest winter of their lives.
Even though Jesus told them over and over again that He would die and then rise again, the disciples didn't believe Him. They were dismayed when Jesus died.
But, then Sunday came.
“And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it… But the angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.'” Matthew 28:2, 5–6
Despite that the disciples didn't believe Him, Jesus still kept His promise. He said He would be resurrected, and He was.
I don't know if you're experiencing your own winter or the dark period between Friday and Sunday. Maybe there's something you've been waiting on for years now.
Even if you’re in a personal winter, what signs of new life and growth can you see?
Even the smallest sign counts. Take some time this week to slow down and notice the small signs of new life, and maybe even write them down.
Whether or not you get the resolve you hope for, my prayer is that you'll cling to the new life of Christ. Look for His signs this spring—I promise you'll find them.
