Your Body Isn’t Failing You
Have you ever thought to yourself:
“Why do I feel like this?”
“I should be handling this better.”
“Why can’t I just have more faith?”
I'm going to be honest with you. It might not be a feeling or faith issue. It might be your nervous system.
When your body has been under prolonged stress, you might feel:
anxious for “no reason”
constantly on edge or like you're waiting for something bad to happen
exhausted, even after resting
overwhelmed by even the small things
like you're overthinking everything
numb, shut down, or disconnected
When your mind and body spend too much time in protection mode, you can get stuck. Your body can store up all those emotions and the heavy experiences you've had.
It's not just your mind and emotions that respond. Your body stores it up physically, too. You might notice more tension or soreness in certain areas of you body—your jaw, neck, shoulders, or back.
And, there's something important you need to know: Your body isn’t failing you. It’s trying to protect you.
When you tense up during a situation or feel your hands grow clammy, your body is trying to tell you that you’re experiencing something stressful or harmful. It’s warning you to proceed with caution, leave the situation, or defend yourself.
Prolonged exposure to stress can cause your body to respond in certain ways. And everyone’s body and stress responses can be different. Those body aches, chest pains, digestive issues, migraines, irregular menstrual cycles, and other irregularities could be your body’s specific response to the built-up stress in your life.
You are not failing. You are overwhelmed. But you don't have to stay feeling that way.
